Day tour in a small group with wine tasting at the vintner's
Excursion on Gran Canaria "Wine and more"
Join with us a winetour in a small group through the most beautiful parts of the island with winetasting on an excellent winery and lunch on a finca
Not only wine lovers get their money's worth on this unique full-day excursion in a small and sociable group of like-minded people (with a maximum of 8 guests).
On this varied tour you get to see the most diverse sides of Gran Canaria in a relaxed manner and get an authentic insight into a small winery in the mountains.
During the subsequent wine tasting of award-winning top wines, you will get to know the hospitable family of winegrowers better.
There is a lot to discover with all your senses during the entire wine tour, but of course there is also a lot to experience. The focus is always on having fun together and relaxing in small circles.
There is also no shortage of culinary delights during lunch with the house wines on an idyllic Guachinche ( Guachinche = farm, winery with restaurant and shop ).
Then we will go stress-free with great views across the island back to your hotel, where we'll pick you up in the morning.
This english speaking guided excursion takes place every Thursday and you can book it with us for only €86 (all inclusive) per person.
Detailed description of the whole wine tour:
We start with the minivan in the holiday resorts in the south of Gran Canaria and pick you up directly at your accommodation in the morning. We drive along the east coast to the city of Telde. We have a look at sections of interesting coastparts and then the old town of Telde with its original Canary flair and the Basilica of San Juan Bautista.
From there we continue inland to one of the most important wine regions of Gran Canaria and we visit the award-winning Bodega Hinojo winery in Montaña Las Palmas. This bodega is a very small family business, which only we visit and which is very popular with the locals and produces top wines that have been awarded several times.
You can expect a nice and hospitable family of winegrowers with professional honor and therefore no mass processing, as is unfortunately not uncommon in the turistic wine cellars worldwide. After an insight into the cultivation of the different grape varieties and the production with explanations from the grape harvest, to the pressing, to the bottling, we start with the wine tasting and try the different wines: First a fruity dry white wine (blanco seco), the Baco Gold was awarded, then a fruity young red wine (tinto seco joven) and then a dessert wine.
For the wine tasting, the vintner picks his own olives, some bread and exquisite local canarian cheese.
We then continue our excursion through the mountains and wine country to the agricultural town of Valsequillo. A little outside we look at the farm on a large guachinche with an incredible variety of cultivation:
In addition to various grape varieties, wine, all sorts of fruits, tropical fruits, vegetables, herbs and medicinal plants are grown: starting with avocados, bananas and lychees, mangoes, oranges, apsekins, pomegranates, peaches, star fruit, papaya, olives, figs, potatoes, salads , peppers, tomatoes, guavas, limes, lemons, to coffee, to name just a few.
Of course, you can also taste the fruit directly from the plant.
Afterwards we enjoy a rich lunch in a pleasant atmosphere with a beautiful view of nature on the idyllic Guachinche Viña Cantera. Everything is largely from their own (organic) production and is freshly prepared.
You will be served their own local wines (tinto seco & blanco seco) with the typical local food, consisting of various delicious tapas and an extensive grill plate.
The in-house olive oil is of the best quality, the bread is also baked in-house and the meat is prepared on an open grill. There is something for every taste and here they work and prepare with love.
As your operator we are also prepared for vegetarians and guests with food intolerances and have delicious and healthy alternatives in organic quality.
After this relaxation, we continue the excursion in our small circle through the picturesque green mountains of the original Gran Canaria with breathtaking views and unforgettable panoramas. At various points you have ample opportunity to take great photos and relax and enjoy the view.
We usually drive an extraordinary route through Vega de San Mateo to the Pico de Las Nieves, the highest viewpoint on the island at 1949m.
From here you have a fantastic view over the island, on Gran Canaria's most famous sights such as the island's landmark, the Roque Nublo, up to the dune landscape of Maspalomas and to Tenerife. You can see very well the Roque Bentayga ( Tejeda ) and the cave village Artenara (highest village of Gran Canaria).
We then return via a nice side route and visit the volcanic crater Caldera de Los Marteles as the last point of our trip.
Should this route (after lunch) not make sense due to the weather and visibility conditions, we have an alternative route for this tour from midday.
We visit the viewpoint Pico de Bandama with the impressive volcanic crater Caldera de Bandama, which is also surrounded by vineyards inland. From here you also have a fantastic view over Las Palmas and the wine region.
We offer the possible alternative route for bad weather with limited visibility to make your day as beautiful and impressive as possible. It is most important to us that it is a worthwhile excursion and a successful vacation day for you. A few kilometers or an hour more or less doesn't really matter to us personally. The focus is on the special experience and your personal time-out.
In any case, you really experience a unique excursion in an extra small group and enjoy the diversity of Gran Canaria away from mass tourism with changing landscapes in the different climate zones, fantastic nature, romantic villages and great views - including a volcanic caldera.
You get a real impression of Canarian wines with all your senses and a culinary experience. You will come into authentic contact with the people and their way of life and experience genuine hospitality.
We only drive to small family businesses. Our guests often buy wine to take home or something from the Guachinche farm shop such as jam, olive oil or honey as a special souvenir. However, there is no compulsion (or similar things) to buy anything or pay separately anywhere during the entire excursion.
Recommendations:
- Due to the small size of the group, there is always a lively exchange among the guests and nobody is left out. Therefore, this excursion is also recommended for solo travelers and singles who like to connect on vacation.
- In the winter months, the weather on Gran Canaria in these areas is usually a bit cooler than in the touristic south. We therefore recommend that you take long clothes with you during the winter months and, if possible, sturdy shoes.
- The excursion is also feasible for people with reduced mobility and due to the content (except for the viewpoints) it is also interesting for people with visual impairments.
- Due to the excursion destinations such as wine tasting etc., this excursion is more suitable for adults than for children. Of course, families with children are still very welcome during the holidays.
Information:
Pick-up for the excursion takes place directly from your hotel on Thursdays at around 10am and you will be back for dinner. You can simply pay the participation fee in cash on the go. Of course, bank transfer in advance is also possible. We will inform you of the exact pick-up time at your accommodation a few days before the excursion.
